Dr. Miriam Furlong’s practice is limited to the dental specialty of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics for children, adolescents and adults. Only dentists who have completed advanced specialty education programs may call themselves orthodontists. She has been in practice since 1998. Her educational background includes a 3-year specialty residency at Montefiore Medical Center and the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in the Bronx, NY. She was a 1995 graduate of New Jersey Dental School at U.M.D.N.J. in Newark, N.J. Prior to that, she graduated Summa Cum Laude from Georgian Court University in 1991.
To keep up to date on the advances in the field of dentistry, Dr. Furlong attends continuing education courses and conferences regularly. She is trained and experienced in using the best orthodontic techniques, including the latest cutting-edge technology as well as more traditional methods. Her philosophy includes early intervention to help prevent developing problems. She encourages concerned patients to bring children by the age of 7, or when the primary dentist notices a problem. The techniques used in the office are among the most comfortable, safe, and hygienic available. She is certified in the Tip-Edge Differential Straight-Arch Technique (a light-force system of small dimension braces), and she has been Invisalign certified since 2000. Dr. Furlong treats patients of all ages and understands that people have very different needs and expectations about treatment. Her educational background and expertise in using a wide variety of treatment techniques allow her to provide the best care that suits each patient’s lifestyle.
As a leader in the local dental community, Dr. Furlong serves on the board of trustees of the Monmouth-Ocean County Dental Society. She is also an active member of the American Association of Orthodontists, the American Dental Association, and has been voted among the top dentists in NJ by her peers.

She has awarded scholarship money to graduating seniors for the past several years and her office frequently holds events to benefit charitable causes, including a holiday giving tree for needy families. She and her team regularly visit local schools, participate in health and career fairs, and they donate gifts and money to support local organizations.
